About the Role

The Director of Nursing is a pivotal leadership role responsible for overseeing the nursing staff and ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care across various settings, including acute care, med-surg, swing bed, and emergency room. This position requires a strategic thinker with a strong background in nursing practices, medical terminology, and regulatory compliance. The Director of Nursing will develop and implement care plans, maintain medical records, and ensure adherence to HIPAA regulations while fostering a collaborative environment among healthcare professionals.
Duties
• Maintains technical skills of a charge Registered Nurse as defined by job description.
• Oversees scheduling of Nursing Staff to meet patient care needs and fulfill licensing requirements for Med-Surg, Swing Beds, and Emergency Room. Covers floor shifts, if indicated.
• Oversees hiring, evaluations, disciplining and terminating Nursing Services.
• Provides for orientation as required and necessary in-service for Nursing Staff.
• Writes, revises, and directs compliance with Nursing policy and procedures.
• Assists and cooperates with consulting pharmacist in management of the drug room.
• Oversees Discharge Planning activities for hospital and Swing Bed patients.
• Receives, acts upon and properly routes incident report forms.
• Makes determinations for availability of space and staff for Swing Bed and Respite Care patients.
• Prepares operational and capital budgets for the Nursing Department.
• Suggests, recommends, and develops or participates in the development of hospital-wide policy and procedures.
• Participates in strategic planning and evaluation of services for the hospital.
• Directs the maintenance of complete healthcare records for current inpatients and outpatients. Directs accurate record-keeping in Emergency Room and Outpatient.
• Oversees the scheduling of outpatient procedures.
• Actively participates in or leads various hospital committees.
• Oversees Nursing Service Quality Assurance monitoring activities.
• Other duties as assigned by Board and/or Administration.
• Participates in facility 340 B program.
• Provide Pharmacy oversight in absence of contracted Pharmacist.
Experience
• Minimum of 2 years successful nursing experience including Med-Surg and ER, preferably in a small rural hospital.
• Minimum of 6 months successful “charge” RN position directing other nursing staff members.
Job Knowledge
• Current nursing skills in Med-Surg, ER and Cardiac Monitoring.
• Ability to access situations and appropriately prioritize resource application.
• Ability to negotiate with Healthcare Providers, Nursing Staff, and department heads to meet patient care needs efficiently.
• Ability to delegate, instruct, and evaluate in clinical and managerial duties required of Nursing Staff.
• Ability to write concise, complete policy and procedures and information material.
• Ability to interpret statistical and financial information.
• Ability to verbally communicate questions, directions, and information.
